Uniform
Principles & aims
At Etchingham we believe that the wearing of a school uniform instils a sense of pride, unity and community spirit and expect all children to wear the correct school uniform.
Our policy for children’s school uniform is based on the belief that a school uniform:
- promotes a sense of pride in the school
- engenders a feeling of community and belonging
- is practical and smart
- identifies the children with the school
- is not distracting in class (as fashion clothes might be)
- makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance
- is regarded as suitable, and good value for money, by most parents
- has been designed with health and safety in mind.

Hair
Long or mid-length hair should be tied back. Hair bands or slides may be worn but these should be school colours and simple in style. Fashion accessories, elaborate hair bands and extreme hair styles including coloured hair are not permitted.
Jewellery
On health and safety grounds, and in line with ESCC policy, we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school. Stud earrings may be worn but will need to be covered with tape or removed for PE. These must be a plain colour only. Fashion earrings are not permitted.
We encourage parents to make use of the summer holidays for ear piercing. This will enable ears to heal before returning to school in September.
Nail Varnish & Temporary Tattoos
Nail varnish of any colour is not permitted to be worn at school. Should this be worn, we will request from parents/carers that it is removed by the next school day. The same rules will apply for temporary tattoos.
Uniform supplier
The School’s current uniform supplier is PMG Schoolwear and you may order directly from their website at:
http://www.pmgschoolwear.co.uk/advanced_search.php?skl_id=6584&pager=view_all
We appreciate that some items are available elsewhere at lower prices than our suppliers. Non-logo items may be purchased from high street stores or superstores, providing that they are the right colour. This includes the grey trousers, shorts, skirts, plain white polo shirts and green check gingham dresses.
It is essential that all items of uniform are clearly labelled with the child’s name.
