Etchingham CE Primary School

Reception

Our class teachers are Miss Peace and Mrs Palmer and they are supported by Mrs Dear and Mrs Novis.

Our early years provision has been judged to be OUTSTANDING by Ofsted (July, 2023):

Children in the early years receive a very strong start to their education in this school. Staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They create an inspiring curriculum that reflects the children's interests.

Starting Reception

The 'Starting Reception' website has been launched to offer support to parents. We understand that all children develop at their own pace, and that we're all learning from birth. When it's time to start school, some children will need more help than others.

This link will take you to the site where you can explore this in more detail: Starting Reception

Phonics & Early Reading

Learning to read is one of the most crucial areas of learning that takes place in Reception.

We believe that for all our children to become fluent readers and writers, phonics must be taught through a systematic and structured phonics programme. We have adopted the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme to plan and deliver daily engaging phonics lessons.

For information on how to support your child at home, please see the link below:

Learning

Children share their interests with us and this forms the basis of our curriculum. They learn through play and exploration, building on their own skills and we value every child's unique talents. Pupils spend time both in their enabling classroom environment and in the carefully designed and stimulating outdoor learning space that is for their exclusive use.

The curriculum is delivered in the form of Learning Journeys which map the  key lines of enquiry and the foundation of knowledge and skills on which they build as the children move through the school.
