Primary Sports Premium

The Primary Sports Premium Funding is given to Primary Schools to get more people playing sport safely from a young age, and help them keep playing sport throughout their life, no matter what their economic or social background.

Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:

  • hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons
  • support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs, e.g. the Change4Life clubs
  • provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers
  • run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • run sports activities with other schools

Sustainability

The Government has currently committed to retaining the Primary Sports Premium and using the "Sugar Tax" from 2017-18 is going to double the amount of funding for it.  If funding should end at a future date, we have ensured that our provision is sustainable by:

  • Using Professional Sports Coaches to train and upskill School Staff;
  • Investing in the latest Schemes of Work and Lesson Planning in line with the current curriculum;
  • Investing in quality equipment and budgeting for on-going renewal;
  • Establishing a strong local sports partnership to facilitate inter-school and specialist competitions;
  • Establishing relationships with local Independent School who give us use of their specialist sports facilities.
